Well I actually quite like the phoenix when it's not got 30 people all failing the massive arm jump, so let's meet there.
And I can literally do whenever, so when's good for other people?

What's wrong with your knee?

not exactly sure, tendons at the top of my shin have been grumbly since you made me do that cat-pass precision at the class. Thought it was just a bruising thing so trained fairly heavily sunday and wednesday, and whilst it never became an accute pain, the fact that it's still hurting now made me a bit concerned.
It's only a mild discomfort but it's longevity is threatening...

How is your warm up before sessions? How's your glute, hamstring, low back and hip flexor mobility? Do you do strength stuff for your legs?

my warm ups have never been that structured, I just ease into it slowly, listen to my body as I go, takes me maybe half an hour or more to get fully going. generally pretty flexible, nothing amazing, but never had any problems either. Been working on hamstring and glute stretches a lot recently as part of getting a good pike on me. Not much strength stuff no, sometimes bulgarian split squats if I'm out of training for a little while just to keep the muscles going. Recently I've been doing steady unweighted squats in an attempt to loosen things up around my knee, I think it helps short-term, no idea about long term. Also, sunday I was going lots of massive standing jumps, wednesday was lots of large running jumps, I can't imagine that would have helped anything

For your warm up, start with some jogging, star jumps etc for a couple of minutes. Then go straight to these (1:20 www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZYIMSpZNZo) for like 2x15 each leg. A warm up doesnt need to be long. I can make mine anywhere from 5 minutes to 15. All you need to do is get warm up - run around etc, warm/prepare the muscles specifically (squats, lunges, push ups etc), dynamic stretches and then work on prehab (TKEs for example). Sometimes it helps to fire up your CNS too with some dynamic stuff like sprints. Do more strength stuff too Seriously, Parkour practitioners are ignorant to the amount of stress that they put their body through especially the skinner guys. I wouldn't say now that i'm big, but i cringe at the thought of what my body was taking a couple of years ago. And as much as you might not want to hear it.. your best bet is to join a gym. Bodyweight stuff never worked for me. I havent had any joint pain in aaaaaaaaages since I started weight lifting. It will carry over to your performance too, especially as you're already quite light.

And also, proper landing technique work is vital.
People can't just expect to turn up, not warm up properly, not do any strength training and just jump around without their body complaining.

that's the kind of thing I do for my warm-up anyway, just as I said, no real structure...
And this is the first time I've had a complaining knee in 5 years. Well, I had osgood schlatters and shin splints when I first started, but I sorted that out within a year. I went through a phase of lower-back pains but that had no correlation to parkour, I think it was more the way I've slept, which I've fixed now.
And you have no idea how much I don't want to go to a gym. I like the idea of doing weight training, I really do, but I utterly hate gyms! I do prehab stuff a lot, and other than that I'll drill smaller precisions over and over and over again.

Why do you hate gyms?

(Baring in mind my gym is the university's gym) Because I'm a lanky boy with the body of an anorexic and the face of a child. I'm an intellectual beta male with no physical presence who writes poetry and talks like a David mitchell that's been shrunk in the wash. And when you walk into a gym, you judge them and they judge you. You look around and all you can see is other people looking around at other people looking around and judging people. And so when I'm in there it doesn't matter that I can outsmart half of them with a sniff or that I have a standing jump that's getting on 10 feet, all that matters is that I'm skinny and pale. And I don't know what to do with half the stuff, and I don't want to use something that somebody else has sweated all over, and the whole place smells of feet and the music's awful. And I don't want to get changed in a public changing room, and I don't want to use public showers, but neither do I want to walk 10 minutes home all sweaty from being in a horrible room after every work-out. .... Oh and it's expensive.

I'll be out tomorrow from about 7 after work if any is around then.
Tom, I've decided that I hate the John Stanford gym too (at least the free weights section - and why do cardio in a gym?) and I've had the same problems as you in the past with gyms!
Come to the Urban Martial Arts gym with me sometime, its much better. Plus its only £3.50 per session. ;p
